History

Al Thiqah Club for the Handicapped, which is established in 1978, is considered the first of its type in U.A.E.
The club was primarily established for rehabilitating the handicapped culturally, socially, and physically. The handicapped support since eighties and till now has been witnessing a stupendous boom that tallies with the general boom U.A.E. witnesses.

The handicapped themselves had formed a committee supported by the club with the purpose of organizing a marathon that kicked off from Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services on 1983 January 10. In a kind initiative from H.H. Sheikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services embraced the committee by offering it an avenue where it launched its activities with the starting of the year 1986.

H.H. Ruler of Sharjah has offered the committee police officers club to be its avenue, later; the committee has turned into Al Atta Club for the handicapped.
Having inaugurated by H.H. Ruler of Sharjah, the club was locally declared on the 10th of May 1987 and named Al Thiqa for Handicapped. Before that, it was declared by the Ministry of Youth and Sports as per a ministerial resolution and from that time on, the club had been smothered by the unstinting bounties of his highness.
Al Thiqa club is the first integrated club for the handicapped in the Middle East; this is owing to the stupendous care that H.H. Ruler of Sharjah has dedicated to the people with special needs.

This stupendous care has conduced to a myriad of international and Arabic achievements in which the handicapped overcame their deformity and soldiered on boldly.
Furthermore, our handicapped sons raised a loft the U.A.E. flag by wining a number of Olympic medals, let alone the international records broken by the U.A.E. heroes.
