About
Al-Thiqa Club for the Disabled
The inception of the club took place in 1983, driven by individuals with disabilities. An advocacy committee was established within the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, leading to the organization of the inaugural sports marathon. With the backing of Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, the committee commenced its activities in the city in 1986, laying the groundwork for the club's formation. In 1999, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, officially opened the club's headquarters, named 'Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled,' reflecting his steadfast commitment to the empowerment of individuals with disabilities. This club stands as the first integrated sports facility for people with disabilities in the Middle East, providing a variety of sports and cultural initiatives. In 2009, a dedicated section for girls was launched, reinforcing the concept of equal opportunities. Since its establishment, the club has persistently worked towards its mission of fostering a more inclusive society.
