Al-Thiqa
Club for the Disabled in Sharjah, which was established in 1987, is the first
club for the disabled in the United Arab Emirates concerned with the affairs of
people with disabilities (cultural, social, rehabilitation and sports). The
club began as an advocacy committee for people with disabilities in Sharjah,
founded by the disabled themselves, where they formed a gathering in the
Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services in 1983 AD by organizing the first
marathon, after which the city would host the headquarters of the committee and
began its work and activities from within it with the beginning of 1986 AD in a
good gesture of happiness Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director
General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.
The honor of
His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, may God protect him and the advocate for
the disabled, was the inauguration of His Highness the club in 1999 AD, and it
was called Al-Thiqa Club for the Disabled. Middle East, and in 2009 the new
branch of the girls' branch was opened.
